A soft tissue injury is damage from ligaments, muscles or tendons resulting from trauma or overuse. This can happen from sudden uncontrolled movements, like a slip trip and fall accident. Strains are caused by overstretching or tearing of muscles or tendons, and sprains occur from over-stretching a ligament. There are three different grades of soft tissue injuries.
- 1. Mild: Small tears in fibers and minimal swelling.
- 2. Moderate: Partial tears and swelling. Increased pain especially when applying weight on injured area.
- 3. Severe: Complete ruptures with much swelling. Extreme pain and inability to use injured area.
